My Ladye Nevells Booke, a 16th-century manuscript, is notable for its red morocco leather binding and richly decorated cover. The former owner's name adorns front and back covers. It contains unique engraving styles with diamond-shaped note heads and sophisticated calligraphy. It is especially important as a source of William Byrd's keyboard music.
William Byrd (c. 1540-1623), a great English Renaissance composer, influenced musicians in England and Europe. Famed as "the father of music," his works included sacred and secular polyphony, keyboard pieces and consort music.
